Operator question: Commercial Classic Arcade Location - How often do videogames break down?

$

So I need to budget on arcade repairs for a classic 80s/90s arcade, which leads me back to question I've hinted at in the not-so-far-past:

If I have a commercial location with say 10 games (or for the question, multiples of 10 games), how many failures will 10 game have in a year? The location is fairly busy, open 7 days a week, 8 hours per day...

Per each 10-game years, how many monitor problems might I experience on average? How many PCB issues? Power or otherwise (assume I'm running...

Qbert JROK Sync question

I'm trying to get my QBert JROK board to run in my Jamma wired QBert cabinet, but I'm not able to get it to sync. Tried another jamma board in the same cab, and it sync's immediately with no problems. Currently the horizontal sync and vertical sync pins have a jumper connecting them. Can anyone let me know what I need to adjust to get this to sync?

Thanks

How to best clean and patch up this control panel?

Here is the next chapter in my adventure in rebuilding a Golden Axe cabinet.

I'm now working on the control panel. I've removed the original Sinistar CPO but it has left behind an incredibly sticky residue. I can lift the entire wood and control panel buy just sticking my hand to it. Do any of you have any advice on the best way to remove or dissolve this sticky layer?

The other question is what is the best way to fill in the original holes so that I can drill new holes for the Golden Axe...

Hello! My name is Wyatt. I am excited and surprised to find your community!

I have an old arcade machine (Solar Ride) that I don't really know what to do with. From my limited research I was surprised to find out that it might be worth a little bit. I joined here primarily to get advice, and secondarily because I am happy to help support your community. I think it is slick that someone is preserving gaming history like you all.

Thanks for letting me be a member! I look forward to getting...

G08 repair issue

$

Working on a G08 for a friend and I'm having an issue with the image. The monitor was brought to me with a horizontal collapse. The monitor had been working when purchased at an auction site but upon delivery, the monitor displayed a vertical line. The owner had tried changing the 2n6259 transistors with no luck. He brought it to me for further analysis. I pulled the chassis and began to go over it and found one set of the 10 watt 1.5 ohm ceramic resistors had broken free from the...

19V1001 Transistors

I need an opinion or two…I'm in the process of recapping a 19V1001 monitor that never been touched. Is it worth replacing the two bottle caps on the chassis: The BDW51C 73V regulator and the BU207 HOT while I'm in there? Or is this an example of if it's not broke don't fix it?

They both appear to be obsolete but APAR has replacements available. I kind of want to get those micas out and put down silipads.

Asteroids Deluxe

Hi,

I'm working on an Asteroids Deluxe project. With help from @andrewb I safely brought up the PCB and monitor to find this behavior. I wasn't sure how to describe it in order to search for relevant threads, so I thought I'd post it here to see if anyone can point me in the right direction.

(I wasn't sure how to post the video inline, so I had to attach a zip file.)

Thanks,

-John

Newbee needing help and advice

My name is Bob. I'm 70 years old and looking for help and advice. I have the opportunity to repair numerous 80s and 90s arcade machines. In my early life, I was a TV and video engineer, so I am familiar with how game units work, but guidance on where to buy parts, get access to complete manuals would be so appreciated.

Thank you in anticipation.

Sea Wolf Flyback

Hi, I have another thread for bringing a Sea Wolf back to life in the other repair forum, but since this it monitor specific, thought I start one here...

I know electronics, but next to nothing about CRTs. I'm pretty sure this is the flyback, and as you can see, the piece that comes out of the center, wraps over the top and fastens to the metal base is snapped. It this strictly a mechanical attachment or is it grounding it? Is it repairable? Or do I need to find a replacement? Thanks...

Hello! I found your lovely forum after getting a pair of arcade cabinets that need some TLC. I have no idea the history of where these cabs came from but I'm looking forward to digging into what they need to repair.

I have a Q*Bert (turns on but screen just shows garbage) and Baby PacMan (turns on but screen has just solid color). If anyone knows how to find the serial for the Baby Pac that would be great! Both have been stored in the back of a garage under a tarp for years and have...

Trackball - repair or replace?

$

I have a happ trackball (2 1/4" I believe) for a Gimme a break. The ball rolling right was not smooth. So I opened it up and it looks like the roller is bad, but could be the bearing.

I did see posts about the bearings at Paradise shop being worth it and the ones at arcade shop as hit or miss.

The cost to replace the rollers, which when added to the cost of the bearings, could make it cheaper to just get a new trackball unit.

Just wanted to know people's thoughts on what they would do.

Qbert Control Panel? And Should cabinet be repainted or apply new art only?

Hey guys so i snagged this cabinet, has Gottlieb on back sticker so once was a Qbert, I want to bring it back but is the control panel original? It does not have a middle hole or Player 1,2 button holes on side as usual?

Also should i repaint this cab or just clean it up and apply new artwork? Looks in decent shape some minor swelling on sides but yellow still in tact.
