So I was scanning craigslist the other day and came across an add for a Donkey Kong and Gorf for $300. The add said they weren't working but were complete. I figured what the heck, I'll give it a shot. We drive out there and look at the machines..not in terriable shape, but definately dirty and the gorf was a little rough. We waited pateitnly and talked to the the sellers grandmother while we waited for the guy to come home so we could talk price. Guy comes home we did a little negotiating and come to a nice agreement in price. Good times.
While we were talking to the lady about the machines waiting for her grandson, she mentioned in passing that she had a starwars in the basement. I tried my absolute best to keep my cool and just kinda said "oh thats cool, those games are hard to work on". After we finished talking about the two machines, I mention to the guy "oh, we could look at that starwars"...OK..but its my grandmothers he says. We go down there and look at the machine. Guy says it's never been opened or disasembled so its complete. The game is in average condition for sitting there so long and totally covered in dust. We (meaning buffet who is doing my negotiating because I suck at it) say "well a machine in that condition is only worth about 300-400 given the condition and the repairs it may need". Guy says we have to talk to his grandmother. We do some talking with the nice lady and tell her we have cash and can take it away now..after a little himming and hawing and some negotiating we come to an agreement..$600 for the whole lot...Gave her the cash and got out of there ASAP.
The best part is when we got the games back to my place we find that the donkey kong works! Needs a cap kit as the screen is very dim and the colors are off and the joystick could stand to be rebuilt, but it works and is playable. Sweet! The gorf is going to need some chasis work so we'll see how that turns out. I finally got a look inside the SW and saw it had a 6100. I was hoping for an amplifone, but still $600 for a complete starwars, complete gorf, and a working complete donkey kong...not too shabby.
In case you were wondering, I don't know if the SW works or not. I havent turned it on yet as I have been advised to go thru and check and reflow the header pins before I turn it on to prevent any damage..given that I know nothing about SW, I figured better safe then sorry. I'm assuming its not working and is going to need work of some sort.
