I've been emailing this guy on CL about his Williams Phoenix when he sent me a bunch of photos of the inside of the machine. At first the backbox looked normal - I see the CPU board, driver board and power board, but in the cabinet is all this extra stuff that looks like hand wire-wrapped perfboards and banks of relays. There are also a lot of non-standard wires running between the backbox, cabinet and playfield, many with crimp-on butt connectors.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Could it be a prototype of some kind? The big chips on the driver board look like EPROMS.
Guy says his dad got it from a burger joint that closed in the 1980s.
