A few months ago I scored a "broken" Golden Tee 2K for $10. Thanks to this website, I was able to figure out it had a kill switch that once I pressed.... the marquee light, coin mech lights, and speaker all kicked on. I still need to figure out what is wrong with the monitor and/or PCB.
Anyways, I also identified the cabinet as a TMNT. After reading up some more, I thought I'd try my hand at stripping the black paint because I could see seams where the side art should have met.
I've gone through a range of emotions of the past few hours.... fist pumping when I saw Raphael's face emerge and the realization I had intact side art, fatigue when I started to realize how long this was going to take, excitement again as I saw a section nearly finished, and then more concern when I realized the side art had plenty of scratches in it. I've attached some pictures because I'd like to know if it is worth proceeding or if this side art is too far gone.
I also am concerned with the Citristrip. I started doing the top section and could clearly see it stripping off the black border around the "TURTLES". I hope I'm doing this right. I'm just painting it on with a brush, letting it sit for 10-15 minutes and then scraping with a plastic tool. I did have to do a second light coat on the bottom section and it is still going to need some more work. With the second coat, I used a stiff brush which is what the Citristrip recommended.
Any advice for a rookie? Keep going? What can I do to make sure I don't tear up the side art? After I saw all those scratches it made me worried that I had done some (if not a lot) of them with my brush.
